Joy, Gratitude, Present, Tag, You’re It!

As my dearest friend, or maybe it was an iconic character, who really knows, once said: There’s a little bit of truth in every grain of sarcasm. There is also depth to and value in a number of cliches we hear bandied about come a new year. We, and now I mean I, because I am no royal, get tired of reading any number of these saccharine advisements. I am wary of those who proclaim all that joyousness and endless gratitude and how they are so present every moment and ugh it’s tiresome. Just do it and stop TALKING about it. Ever the grinch! See, not really. I cannot fault…

Happy New Year, Kids!

I watched, if you can watch with your eyes closed, as November, December and then the entire first day of 2014 passed by without my making a single entry on this blog. What is it about inertia? The first step is doing something small, anything really, even if it is a crumb of your goal, even if it is a miniscule slice of your philosophical pie, even if it is writing a confession. Yes. I have a confession. I, decrier of fads, un-endorser of gimmicks, non-fan of trends, indeed took a three-day juice cleanse. Let’s go back a couple of months. No Fuss Dad and I left Mellow Little Person…

Next Level/Tired Of It

That’s it. I am exhausted by and infuriated with the supposed ideals of womanliness, motherhood and parenthood- not because I shun the very thought of achieving a goal or reaching an ideal, but because THEY ARE FALSE IDEALS. If I read one more post somewhere about how someone would rather be happy than perfect, or it’s okay not to be perfect, or you’re not perfect and that’s alright, or love your imperfections; my head may implode.   Let’s take on false ideal of a parent with kids who are always happy, always well-dressed, always eat what’s in front of them happily, who always is contently in love with their fellow parent.…

The Slow Road/Here It Is

Marathon Sunday. When something seems far away; really when it IS far off in the calendar’s future, when it is the calendar’s future, not mine and/or my family’s, I can be ruthlessly objective. Yes, that will happen. Oh right; that. New Yorker or not, you likely know that the New York City Marathon is THIS SUNDAY. This weekend. It is no longer a few screen swipes or turned pages away. It is basically right now. I am most excited to run with an actual crowd of spectators. My first two marathons were quiet. Beautifully scenic race courses and almost nobody watching. For New York, well, I am on the edge…

Can I Get a “Moo Moo”?

No, not MiuMiu, although Fashion Week just ended. Though I had NOTHING to do with Fashion Week. Well maybe one person who had something to do with Fashion Week had a workout here. No Fuss Dad and I were heavily involved in planning for preschool “stuff”. Mellow Little Person has new mimicking skills. If we weren’t watching our mouths before this new phase, you bet your rear we are watching them now. I personally may not have watched my mouth um, enough. A few weeks ago, MLP dropped a spoon and said “uh oh damn”. No, for reals. He did. Do you have any idea the restraint I had to…
